Seniors Housing Alliance - Simcoe county

Introduction

The Seniors Housing Alliance – Simcoe County (SHA-SC) is a volunteer-led advocacy group focused on the future of housing and aging in Simcoe County.

We bring together local experience in housing, community development, policy, and aging to encourage practical solutions that help older adults remain safe, connected, and independent for longer.

As the population ages, communities must adapt. SHA promotes housing models that support dignity, affordability, inclusion, and social belonging — while encouraging discussion, education, and collaboration across sectors.

Our Vision

A community where older adults in Simcoe County can age with dignity, connection, and choice — supported by safe, inclusive, affordable housing and strong social belonging.

We believe older adults should have access to housing options that reflect how they want to live: independently where possible, connected to community, and supported by environments that evolve with changing needs.

OUR FOUR PILLARS OF ADVOCACY

SHARED ACCOMMODATION

SHARED ACCOMMODATION

SHARED ACCOMMODATION

Shared accommodation creates opportunities for older adults to remain independent while benefiting from lower housing costs, companionship, and mutual support.

SHA encourages thoughtful models that make shared living practical, safe, and community-oriented.

HOME MODIFICATION

Adapting existing homes helps older adults remain safely in familiar surroundings for longer.

SHA supports practical home modification approaches that improve accessibility, safety, and long-term livability for aging in place.

Co-housing

Support Services

Support Services

Co-housing combines private living spaces with shared common areas, creating a balance between independence and connection.

This model offers an alternative to isolation by encouraging community, affordability, and daily interaction.
